Importance of a good night sleep.

Did you know a newborn baby spends approximately 18 hours a day asleep?.  This is quite astonishing and illustrates the importance of sleep for the development of the human body.  Before i go on to explain the importace of sleep, it is first essential to know that, the required amount  of hours required for an adult is anything between 7 – 8 hours a day.

A good night sleep improves cognitve functioning. it promotes flexibility in our thinking and improves our learning. If you want those good grades at school then i suggest getting a good night sleep before studying. studies show that sleep deficiency alters activity in some parts of our brain and if you are deprived of sleep, you may have trouble making decisions and solving problems. In a nutshelll, sleep deprivation is detrimental to our cognitive functioning hence why a good night sleep is important.

Emotional wellbeing. You ever felt irritable, grouchy and wondered why everyone gave you that quizzical look after a sleepless night?.This is beacause, your emotional wellbeing was impaired. Research from the National heart,lungs and blood institute contends that children and teens who are sleep deficient may have problems getting along with others. This is often characterized by anger outbursts, impulsive behaiour, mood swings, feeling depressed and a lack of motivation. concerntration is also affected when this happens.
